Central Bank to sell USD 32 million in foreign exchange market for fuel importers

The Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) announced on August 19 that it would sell USD 32 million from the foreign exchange market to fuel importers. So far in August, the CBM has already sold USD 62 million to the sector, in addition to two earlier injections of USD 30 million on August 5 and USD 32 million on August 13.

In previous months, the bank made regular sales. In July, it sold a total of USD 153 million across five transactions, while in June it sold USD 125 million in four transactions. In May, the CBM injected USD 33 million and THB 200 million, followed by a series of smaller daily sales in US dollars, yuan, and baht, with another USD 30 million later in the month. 

In April, the bank sold USD 188 million and over THB 12 million through several interventions. In March, it carried out frequent sales, including USD 33 million and THB 150 million, and also injected smaller amounts on a daily basis. During that month, the CBM said it was selling an average of USD 2.2 million a day to CMP businesses and essential importers.
