CCTV in Paung Township uninstalled in accordance with election Law

MAWLAMYAING------Thahton District Sub-Election Commission Secretary Thet Naing Oo said that CCTV installed at the advance polling booths in Kadar ward in Paung  by the minister for immigration and Human resources of Mon State were uninstalled on October 30.

 “CCTVs were installed at the place where advance votes are to be cast. Township sub-election commission and officials uninstalled them as they were violating election law,” said Thet Naing Oo, Thahton District Sub- Election Commission Secretary.

In Election Law, taking photographs, recording and installing CCTV are prohibited. That’s why these CCTVs had to be removed, according to Thet Naing Oo. 

On October 30 morning, minister Tun Min Aung visited the booth and ward administrator office. He asked where the advance vote boxes were and said he wanted to install CCTVs, according to Kadar ward administrator Than Htwe.

“As he is a minister, we couldn’t forbid him from installing the CCTV. Around 12; 00 am, the men sent by the minister came and installed CCTVs. In the evening, we informed the matter to the township sub-election commission.  Later, a township sub-election officer came and took photo record. Then, after 30 minutes, district, township chairmen and members of the sub-election commission came and uninstalled CCTVs. The township administrator came and gave the CCTVs back to those who came and installed them,” said Than Htwe.

In Motta village, Paung Township, advance vote boxes were kept at the administrator office on October 20 evening. We saw CCTV there. There are ward, village sub-election commission members and party representatives,” said Aung Ngwe, chairman of Motta village, Paung Township. He said that there are many eligible voters in the village and so we asked all responsible members to cooperate for the election.

Mon State Minister for immigration and Human resources Tun Min Aung was elected at the Paung Township constituency (1) in 2015. He was confirmed on July 15 at the Mon State Parliament emergency meeting 2.2019, first day. 

In Mon State, 25 candidates from  Mon United party (MUP),  national League for Democracy Party (NLD),Union Solidarity and Development party(USDP), National Unity Party (Ta Sa Nya), National Democratic Party, Union Betterment Party and Kren party will be competing for 4 constituencies.
