It’s best if the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) is directed towards the discussion of equality, autonomy and democratic federal system, said Pado Saw Tar Do Mu, general secretary of the Karen National Union (KNU) on August 21.

“We must be committed to the NCA. What I want to say is about equality, self-administration and democratic federalism. It’s best if we can go that way. As we have to build peace among the organizations with different ideas, we need to seek a solution that is acceptable to all. We must avoid acceding due to force or pressure. We will achieve peace quickly if we can seek solutions with a real desire for peace,” Pado Saw Tar Do Mu said.

Quoting the speech of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services about the reason why peace has not been achieved at the opening of the Union Peace Conference-the 21st Century Panglong this month, he said if honesty is necessary, all need to be honest including the military and EAOs (ethnic armed organizations).

“It is also better for both sides to not discuss irrelevant issues. It will be OK then. Currently we may have different ideas because our backgrounds are different, he added.
