Dr. Than Min Htut, Chief Medical Officer of Pathein District hospital said that despite significant drop in the number of COVID confirmed patients and could be considered under control in Ayeyarwady but patients still test positive daily.

The Chief Medical Officer continued to say that as Ayeyarwady Region is in close proximity with Yangon Region and that they will have to remain on alert.

The number of infected patients in Pathein city has dropped significantly as there are only four patients receiving treatment in Pathein General Hospital.

He warned that the number of infected patients in towns close to Yangon Region keeps increasing, and that from one infected person many can get infected.

Dr Than Min Htut said that, as of the previous day in the Ayeyarwady Region the number of infected patients was 675, and this number was more than before. Maubin and Mawkyun are the places with a slightly high number. The reason why it is high is because they are in close contact with Yangon. The place of contact is the fish market in Kyeemyindaing. There are chances of someone infected in the fish car with whom others can have contact. There are 179 infected patients in Maubin hospital. In Mawkyun there are 46. Right now the number of infected cases keeps increasing there. At the moment since the start and till now the number of patients in Pathein was 159. Of these today two have been discharged bringing  the total number discharged to 155, so that there are only four patients in hospital. As far as Pathein city alone is considered, it is under control. Places in Ayeyarwady Region that are in close proximity with the Yangon border it can be stated that the number of infected patients is high. As of now Pathein is peaceful, but we cannot be fully confident. It depends very much on Yangon. The infected rate in Yangon has not dropped. It is still much. As far as the number keeps increasing in Yangon, towns close to the Yangon border like Maubin and Mawkyun will have high numbers of infected patients. That makes it diffucult for us to control. It Is important for the entire country to be brought under control. Yangon should be brought under control. In Pathein as there are only four patients the public would everything is alright. In reality COVID-19 is not over. It is time to wait and see. So we cannot say that Covid is completely over, warned Dr Than Min Htut.

Of the 26 townships in Ayeyarwady Region, Ngaputaw is the only township with no one infected with virus, and according to information given at 8am, 20th Oct. in the entire Ayeyarwady Region the number of confirned patients has been 686, and of these 497 have recovered and been discharged from hospital, so that 207 patients are still taking treatment.
