Authorities issue security alert in airports

Authorities issued security alert in airports including Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw airports due to reports of potential attacks, according to Department for Civil Aviation (DCA).

The US embassy issued an announcement on September 26 to warn about potential attacks in Nay Pyi Taw on September 26, October 16, and October 26, and in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, and Mandalay in the coming months.

“The DCA instructed airport authorities to increase airport security due to reports of potential attacks. Officials from Ministry of Home Affairs, YACL and the DCA held an emergency meeting today to discuss about the security affairs in Yangon International Airport (YIA),” said Ye Htut Aung, Deputy Director General of the DCA on September 27.

A total of 34 international airlines are operating 33 international flight schedules at the YIA, according to the YIA.

The YIA, which located about six hours flights from Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Narita, Incheon, Dubai, Doha, Beijing, Hong Kong and Taipei, provided services for 6.035 million passengers during 2018.
