As a Chinese research vessel has arrived at Thilawa Port in Yangon Region to cooperate between Myanmar and China in marine science research, special health monitoring is necessary, said Professor Dr Thet Khaing Win, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Health and Sports.

He stressed the need for health checks during a meeting on the coronavirus outbreak held in Nay Pyi Taw on February 12.

Chinese research vessel XIANG YANG HONG 06 arrived at Thilawa Port on the evening of February 12.

The permanent secretary spoke of the need for detailed preparations for health checks over the Chinese ship arrival.

He also urged officials concerned to provide enough viral transport medium (VTM) to be used in sending samples of those under investigation for the virus to the National Health Laboratory.

He also called for preventative measures such as providing hand gel at a ceremony to unveil General Aung San’s statue in Nay Pyi Taw on February 13 as there will be more than 20,000 members of the public.
