ASEAN Special Envoy Erywan Yusof is set to meet with 8 political parties from Myanmar tomorrow (October 12) in Naypyidaw, according to some of the invited political parties. However, it continued to be unknown whether Mr. Erywan Yusof will be allowed to meet with detained State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

The Special Envoy will meet with representatives of eight political parties at the office of the Union Election Commission (UEC) in Naypyidaw on October 12 around 1pm.

“Our party has been invited to attend the meeting tomorrow at the UEC office in Naypyidaw. A member of our CEC will attend,” says a member of the Union Betterment Party (UBP), a party led by former General and Speaker of the House Thura U Shwe Man.

This member also mentioned that it is still unknown whether the Special Envoy will be able to meet with detained State Counselor Daw Aung San Su Kyi.

A total of 8 political parties have been invited to attend the meeting with the Special Envoy, including the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and the UBP.

A spokesperson for the USDP confirmed that USDP’s chair U Than Htay will be attending the meeting with the Special Envoy.

Maj. General Zaw Min Tun, Spokesperson for the State Administrative Council (SAC), could not be reached for comment regarding the details of the Special Envoy’s trip.
