A group of unidentified gunmen reportedly robbed a van carrying cash from a local private bank branch in front of Zithee swimming pool on Yangon-Mawlamyine Road near the town of Thuwunnawati, Thaton Township, Mon State, on December 27 morning, making off with about Ks84 million and mobile phones as well as the car.

The cash transport van is said to be a Probox from Myanma Apex Bank (MAB). The car was robbed as it rode to Thaton after collecting cash from DENKO filling stations in Bilin and Thuwunnawati.

Onboard the van were the deputy manager of MAB in Thaton, a bank staff and a driver. I heard their car was robbed in front of Zithee swimming pool. The car, cash and phones were all taken away, said a source close to Thaton MAB branch.

In connection with the case, authorities questioned bank officials.

A complaint has been filed at the police station concerned in Thuwunnawati, and investigation is underway to expose and arrest the robbers.
