Armed group fires at trucks on Mandalay-Lashio Road

NAUNGPAING- Some members of an armed group opened fire at a cow-loaded truck on Mandalay-Lashio Union Road, leaving a driver dead, according to the sources.

The truck was heading to Hsibaw Township from Naung Cho.

“We heard that a cattle truck was shot yesterday morning. So, we went to the scene and found that a truck driver had died on the spot. We later sent the dead body to Kyaukme Hospital by car. When we got to the scene of the incident, we found that five other trucks carrying cattle had stopped near the accident,” said Aung Nyunt from Bawgyo Social Welfare Association.

There were four people, including the killed driver on the cow-loaded truck, which was the fourth truck out of the five.

The truck, loaded with 20 cows and heading to Muse Township, was shot which led to the truck swerving off the road and hitting a tree.

Likewise, a township level member of Union Solidarity and Development Party from Kyaukme Township, Northern Shan State was shot dead by two gunmen on December 23rd, 2019.

Moreover, the Presiding Monk of Khaynin Monastery in Lashio Township was also killed by unidentified gunmen on October 20th as well as three men that were shot dead at a restaurant in Kyaukme Township on November 3rd.

On November 2nd, a truck loaded with cows driving on Lashio-Mandalay Union Road was fired on, leaving one dead.

Also, an In-Charge from Manh Kaung village in Lashio Township was shot dead on October 15th by unknown armed gunman.

On December 28th, three men were found dead with gun wounds near the teak forest beside Lashio-Mandalay Union road.
