Acting President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing stated that the armed groups in Kayin State are the ones disrupting the state’s peace and stability.
On the morning of November 15, while meeting with state-level department officials and township elders in Hpa-an, Kayin State, to discuss regional development, Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) Senior General Min Aung Hlaing made the following statement.
Since independence, Kayin State has been disrupted by armed insurgencies, which have affected not only the people living in the state but also the country. Those who are working to disrupt the peace and stability of Kayin State are the armed groups in Kayin State. Only when there is peace and stability can education be provided, health care for the people be provided, and regional development be carried out, said Acting President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
Therefore, the people living in the state need to protect themselves from the activities that are destroying the peace and stability of the state by all means. The government is clearing up the activities that are destroying the peace and stability of the region in Kayin State. The military is clearing up the KK park area near the Myanmar-Thailand border where online money laundering and online gambling are taking place, and will do so as a national duty.
May Kayin State be peaceful and prosperous, and the state is continuously working for the development of Kayin State, and elections will be held in the near future. After the elections, the elected representatives and the new government will take over the responsibilities of the state, said Acting President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
We will continue to walk on the democratic system that the people want, and we will follow a good political path with good elected representatives. While progress can be achieved in areas with territorial stability and peace, no political system can achieve development in areas without territorial stability and peace, Acting President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said.
A free and fair multiparty democratic general election will be held in the near future. The election will be divided into three phases for security reasons. Voting will be conducted using Myanmar Electronic Voting Machines (MEVMs) that are impervious to voter fraud. We have made preparations to prevent voter fraud and to cast our votes, he said.
In implementing a political system based on democracy and federalism, we must implement a federal system that suits our country. We need to implement a federal system based on regions, not people. We are working to ensure that the elections we hold are fair and dignified. Therefore, all those with the right to vote need to cast their votes. Therefore, the Kayin State needs to ensure that the election is the basis for the country’s proper political system, said Acting President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
In voting, we need to choose those who can truly serve the interests of the region, who can develop the region, who can serve the interests of the country, who have the will to work together with the organizations legally established by the state to serve the interests of the state, who are willing to protect their ethnicity, religion, and culture, and who can protect and safeguard our three responsibilities, said Acting President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary of the Commission and Joint Chief Executive General Ye Win Oo, Union Ministers, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Chief Minister of Kayin State U Saw Myint Oo, Commander of the Southeast Command, Deputy Ministers, state-level departmental officials in Hpa-an, township elders, MSME entrepreneurs, and local ethnics.
