Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said that all eligible voters should be able to cast their ballots, noting that the state has already arranged for citizens to exercise their voting rights. He added that choosing to vote or not is entirely the decision of each voter.
He made these remarks on November 23 during a meeting with district and township officials, community leaders, and local residents in Maubin, Ayeyawady Region, where he discussed regional development matters.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing reiterated that a free and fair multi-party democratic general election will be held this coming December. He claimed that widespread irregularities occurred in the 2020 election and said those responsible at the time failed to address them legally, forcing the current authorities to take action in line with the Constitution.
He stated that preparations are underway to ensure the upcoming election is credible, including screening parliamentary candidates according to the law. He urged voters to elect individuals who prioritize the nation and their regions, uphold national duties, and possess political, economic, and defense awareness.
The meeting was attended by senior military officers, Union ministers, the Ayeyawady Region chief minister, regional and township administrators, MSME business owners, and invited guests.
During the gathering, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing also discussed agricultural and livestock development in Maubin, including the opening of an agriculture and livestock university in the township, plans to expand the cultivation and export of Paw San Hmwe rice, the potential for exporting Robusta coffee, increasing coconut-based production for export, and expanding fish, poultry, pig, cattle, and duck farming.
