About 80 protestors including university students were detained at the Taung Galay prison in Hpa-an due to the protest staged at Hpa-an on February 28 and they are still at the prison till now.

Security forces cracked down the protestors marched along Garden Street to Bogyoke Road on February 28 morning. Police detained more than 20 protestors and they also used tear gas bomb on another group of protestors marched along Strand Road. They then arrested another 40 protestors there.  Police blocked Thitsar Road in downtown Hpa-an and dispersed the crowd using tear bomb and arrested 20 more protestors there. They then sent the detained protestors to Hpa-an prison.

More than 10 women from Wah Sulei village were arrested. Parents and elders from the village went to prison and asked them at the prison. Currently we heard that  parents have to give ransom for their children's release to the police and prison guards. Parents are in great anxiety and they were forced to provide the ransom even if they couldn’t afford it.
