A Myanmar woman was stabbed to death by a Myanmar man outside of Platinum Shopping Mall in Bangkok, Thailand on March 9.

Ma Phyu Mar Aung was found lying on the steps in front of the department store and her clothes were soaked with blood. She was stabbed five times at her torso, arms and back. She was sent to Phramongkutlao Hospital where doctors performed CPR on her for 30 minutes. But, she was died due to the wounds.

“There are many Myanmar working in various provinces of Thailand. In my opinion, these kinds of incidents may take place one place or another in the future. The consequences are not good because instead of helping among Myanmar people, the murder takes place. As a result, social punishments from Thailand people may fall on Myanmar migrant workers. Upon the initial police’s interrogation, it was found that problems in the worksite were settled by murder. I think, the killer Thet Lin Oo may regret his actions now. Whatever problems they faced in work, it can be solved through discussion. The current case may bring bad consequences to Myanmar migrant workers and so they need to be cautious,” said U Moe Gyo, Chair of Joint Action Committee for Burmese Affairs (JACBA).

Thet Lin Oo and the deceased were working as fruit sellers for the same employer. After the stabbing, he tried to escape from the scene, but was arrested by the security guards of the store and handed over to the police.
