A depression may occur over Bay of Bengal in Aug: DMH

Two low pressure areas may occur over Bay of Bengal in August and one may intensify into a depression, according to a weather forecast made by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) for August.

Southwest monsoon wind will be moderate over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal. A break monsoon may occur once during August.

Rain or thundershowers will be expected below normal level in eastern Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions, Rakhine, Kayin and Mon states, about normal in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway and western Bago regions, Kachin, Shan, Chin and Kayah states, it said.

Rainy days will be expected from 21 to 26 days in upper Sagaing, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions, Kachin, southern Shan, Chin, Rakhine, Kayin and  Mon states, 15 to 20 days in Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay Region, (northern and eastern) Shan and Kayah states,  9 to 14 days in lower Sagaing and Magway regions, it said.

“It is possible that a depression is likely to occur over the Bay of Bengal in the first ten days of August. And a tropical storm may occur in the South China Sea. Middle areas of Myanmar will have rain due to the storms. Strong monsoon winds will bring more rain to Rakhine coast, deltaic areas and southern parts of Myanmar,” said Hla Tun, Deputy Director of the DMH.

Water levels exceeded the respective town danger levels for one time each at Hkamti, Homalin, Phaung Pyin, Mawlaik, Kalewa, Mingin, Kani and Monywa in Chindwin River, at Sagaing, Myinmu, Pakokku, Nyaung-U, Seiktha, Hinthada and Zalun in Ayeyawady River, it said.

Water levels exceeded the respective town danger levels for one time each at Taungoo and Madauk in Sittoung River, at Myitnge in Dokhtawady River, at Hpa-an in Thanlwin River, at Myawady in Thaungyin River, at Bago in Bago River, at Shwegyin in Shwegyin River, at Ngathinchaung, Tharboung and Pathein in Ngawun River, at Maubin in Toe River and at Bilin in Bilin River respectively.
