Ko Jimmy, one of the 88 generation leaders, was arrested by security forces in North Dagon Township, Yangon Region, on the evening of October 23, according to a Facebook post written by his wife Nilar Thein.

Ko Jimmy has been arrested. His life is in danger. The military council must take responsibility for anything that may happen to him after his arrest, Nilar Thein wrote on her Facebook account on the evening of October 24.

A local resident said gunfire was heard in North Dagon Township at about 3 am on October 24.

Shootings occurred in the compound of Pinlon Housing in the township, and there were some arrests, he added.

It is still unknown whether the arrest of Ko Jimmy was related to the incident that happened on the early morning of October 24.

Kyaw Min Yu (a.k.a) Ko Jimmy, one of the leaders of 88 Generation Peace and Open Society, was among the seven persons for whom arrest warrants were first issued after being charged under section 505 (b) of the penal code following military takeover on February 1.

Just recently, those imprisoned for protests were pardoned and the charges against those were dropped. But some of those released were arrested again for other charges.

The reason for the arrest of Ko Jimmy is still unknown.
