Three young men were arrested on July 16 for killing a woman and beating and raping her 13-year-old daughter in Ottwin Township, Bago Region, on July 14, according to the township police station.

“When we arrived at the scene, the mother had already died while the daughter was found unconscious. First, we could not illicit questions from her as she was too weak to answer. After taking time to make her recover, she gave a name “Maung Hnyat”. Based on this name, we launched an investigation. Maung Hnyat is from down the highway and two other accomplices from Tautte Village up in the hill. All the three have been arrested,” said Khin Maung Kyi, head of the police station.

According to the police officer, the suspects brought the mother, 44, and daughter to an old brick house about one mile from Pauktaw Village in Ottwin Township for sexual intercourse at about 4pm on July 13. Argument came the following morning when they refused to pay. The woman and her daughter were taken to differently places. Maung Hnyat stabbed the mother to death. Then, the three beat and strangled the daughter and ran away after thinking that she had died. 

The three arrested men remain under investigation and preparations are being made to open a case after a medical examination result comes out, the officer said.
