According to Thai PBS News, a boat carrying over 40 passengers sank in the Mekong River on the evening of September 2. The vessel was en route from Laos to Tachileik, Myanmar, when it encountered trouble.

Rescue efforts managed to save 20 passengers, but the remaining 20 were still missing as search operations continued into the night. Eyewitnesses reported that the boat was navigating through Chiang Rai district in Thailand before heading towards Tachileik.

The incident occurred after the boat abruptly stopped while traversing the river under challenging conditions, including high water and rough currents. The exact cause of the sinking is still under investigation.
