Twenty illegal Chinese migrants were arrested in Mawtaung Village, Muse Township, Shan State, on August 5, according to police sources.

After receiving information that illegal migrants from China were at local resident Sai Aik Pwe’s home in the village, authorities went and found 20 Chinese men. They were taken to Muse Police Station and they face legal action in accord with the procedures of the Immigration Department.

“Muse district and township police forces, local battalion and units, ward and village administrators and local people are cooperating in preventing foreigners from entering illegally through the Shweli river route and taking security measures,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Aung Htein Lin, head of Muse District Police Force.

On August 4 also, nine Chinese were arrested for illegally entering the country through an illegal route near Namhu Village, Pangsang.

From January to August 5 this year, there were over 40 illegal entries in Muse District and 279 Chinese were arrested.

It is still a challenge to the prevention of illegal transgression and trade as Muse District has a lot of villages sharing borders between the two countries that serve as illegal routes.

Chinese citizens are only allowed to come to Muse 105th border trade zone with border pass.
