Shwe Kyin light festival is held annually on the day after the full moon day of Thadingyut. The festival includes daytime rowing races as well as competitive synchronized paddling exhibitions by both women and men teams.

However, the highlight of the festival occurs only after darkness falls and locals launch hundreds of lit candles onto the water. On this day, people are invited to float candle lights on the Shwegyin River. Before holding the floating of lights in the river, visitors line up the bank of the river to enjoy boat rowing contests and spectacles such as dance performances by troupes on boats.

Shwe Kyin in Bago Region held light floating festival on October 25th this year with dances and rowing teams. It was attended by Bago Region government ministers, MPs from Bago, southern command headquarters, district and township level administrators, departmental heads and officials from National League from Democracy (NLD).

This year, it celebrated the 164th  year of the festival. About 10000 lights were floated along the river.
