In Kayin State, Myawaddy Township, authorities have detained an additional 163 Chinese nationals involved in online gambling and online fraud activities in the Maehtawthalay and KK Park areas.
The government, in collaboration with neighboring countries and international organizations, has been actively working to combat and prevent online gambling and online fraud operations in Myanmar's border regions. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to address illegal activities that have been proliferating in these areas.
The detained individuals had illegally entered Myanmar through border routes, transiting through neighboring countries, including Thailand. They were found operating online gambling and fraud schemes in the Maehtawthalay and KK Park areas of Myawaddy Township. The arrests were made on March 16 following investigations.
The Kayin State government, led by Security and Border Affairs Minister Colonel Min Thu Kyaw, is currently collecting personal information and records of the detained foreign nationals to facilitate their swift repatriation to their respective countries. Authorities are ensuring that all necessary procedures are followed for their transfer.
From January 30 to March 16, a total of 6,599 foreign nationals who entered Myanmar illegally have been detained. Of these, 3,588 have already been repatriated to their home countries through Thailand, following legal procedures. The remaining 3,011 individuals are being prepared for repatriation and are being held in good conditions.
The detained foreign nationals include citizens from China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nepal, Thailand, Japan, Rwanda, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Ghana, Bangladesh, and China (Taipei). The majority of those detained are Chinese nationals.
The government continues to work closely with international partners to address these illegal activities and ensure the safe and lawful repatriation of detained individuals.
