Published 27 October 2026

The land on which the Sky Villa condominium building collapsed during a powerful earthquake will be put up for auction, according to an announcement.

The announcement stated that the plots, registered under the name of U Naing Tun Lin, are grant-owned land parcels located in Aneiktaw Ward, Aungmyethazan Township, Mandalay, between 22nd and 23rd streets on 60th Street, in Plot No. 417. The plots are registered under land ownership numbers 883, 88D+89C, with a total area of 0.40, 0.20 and 0.08 acres, measuring 100 by 400 feet.

U Naing Tun Lin constructed the Sky Villa condominium apartments on the plots and sold them with proportional land ownership rights, the announcement said.

Following mutual agreement between U Naing Tun Lin and his wife, Daw Thet Thet Khine, and the owners who purchased Sky Villa condominium apartments with proportional land ownership rights, the aforementioned grant land plots and all associated ownership and beneficial rights will be sold by auction, with a reserve price to be set. The auction process is scheduled to begin in November, according to the announcement.

Sky Villa has announced that anyone with a legal interest in the auction may submit an objection in person within seven days from the date of publication of the announcement. If no objection is lodged within the stipulated period, the sale process will proceed.

The Sky Villa condominium building collapsed during a powerful earthquake, killing hundreds of people.

In connection with the deaths, Aungmyethazan Township Court sentenced U Naing Tun Lin, the owner of the Sky Villa condominium, to five years’ imprisonment with hard labour on 23 June. Appeals and revision applications were subsequently filed against the ruling, according to reports.

The Aungmyethazan District Court allowed Criminal Revision Cases No. 39(A) of 2026 and No. 42 of 2026. It upheld the original township court’s finding that U Naing Tun Lin was guilty under Section 304-A of the Penal Code but amended the sentence, replacing five years’ imprisonment with hard labour with seven years’ imprisonment.

The case against U Naing Tun Lin was filed at Aungmyethazan Township Court by U Zaw Moe Aung, a staff officer of the Bureau of Special Investigation, who acted as the complainant.

Following the condominium collapse, Sky Villa held ceremonies to provide compensation of K10 million for each person who lost their life and to offer apologies to the victims’ families.
