Myanmar’s Ministry of Industry and MSME Development will partner with Russia to resume operations of the Romelt-process smelting furnace at the No. 2 Steel Mill in Pinpet, Shan State.
During a coordination meeting on October 18, Union Minister Dr Charlie Than instructed officials to thoroughly review the upcoming contract with the Russian company TPE. He emphasized that the agreement must align with foreign expert inspection reports and clearly define project timelines, costs, liability, and strict targets for pig iron output, quality, and raw material consumption. Following the meeting, the minister inspected equipment installation at the mill's waste-heat power plant alongside local staff and foreign experts.
The inspection followed discussions on October 17 between ministry officials and experts from Russian firms TPE and IED. Those talks focused on finalizing work schedules, completing machinery checks, and establishing foundational systems to ensure the safe, stable, and long-term production of quality pig iron.
