Authorities in Ayetharyar, Taunggyi Township, intercepted nearly 800 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (ICE) and arrested three suspects following an intelligence-led operation on October 12.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint police team intercepted a Jinbei van along the Ayetharyar–Industrial Zone–Nyaungshwe road. A search of the vehicle uncovered 796 one-kilogram packets of suspected crystal meth disguised in Chinese tea packaging inside sacks. The driver, identified as Thein Than Htay (alias Ko Thein), was detained at the scene.
A follow-up raid on the home of an accomplice, Aung Naing Win (alias Fatty), in nearby Shwenyaung led to the seizure of a homemade single-shot pistol and 9mm ammunition. Interrogations subsequently led to the arrest of Thi Pun (alias Tun Sein / Lu Wa Gyi), the alleged mastermind behind the shipment.
All three suspects have been charged under Myanmar’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law at the Ayetharyar local police station as investigations continue.
