The Toll Pass RFID system, which enables travelers to use the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway through a prepaid automatic toll collection system, will be sold and installed daily from September 17, without holidays, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, according to the Expressway Maintenance, Repair and Supervision Team.
Initially, Toll Pass counters will be available at Toll Gates No. 3 (milepost 0+7 furlongs), C Junction Toll Gate (201 miles 3 furlongs) and Sakar In Toll Gate (352 miles 4 furlongs) along the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway. Vehicle owners wishing to install the system are required to bring a smartphone, the vehicle on which the system will be installed and the vehicle registration card (Wheel Tax) issued by the Road Transport Administration Department.
The Toll Pass registration process includes registering and installing the application on a smartphone, recording vehicle information, attaching an RFID sticker to the vehicle, and making an initial top-up of at least 5,000 Toll Pass Units (TPU). A fee of K20,000 will also be charged for the RFID sticker and one-year service fee, which must be paid each time a new sticker is installed.
After the Toll Pass system has been installed, vehicles entering the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway must travel at a maximum speed of 20 km/h through the dedicated Toll Pass lane at toll gates. The barrier will automatically open as the vehicle approaches, allowing it to continue without queuing to pay the road usage fee. Tolls will be deducted according to the rates prescribed by the Road Transport Administration Department for each vehicle class, based on the distance between two toll gates. For example, for a Class 1 vehicle traveling from Yangon and entering through Toll Gate No. 3 at milepost 0, 1,500 TPU will be deducted for travel up to Phyu Toll Gate at milepost 115. Toll Pass users are advised that money deposited into the system is converted into Toll Pass Units (TPU) and cannot be withdrawn as a refund. TPU units are valid for one year from the date the RFID sticker is issued. When sales begin on September 17, payments will initially be accepted only in cash, while online payment methods including MMQR, KBZ Pay, AYA Pay and WAVE Pay will be available soon, according to the Expressway Maintenance, Repair and Supervision Team.
The Toll Pass RFID system is designed to be more convenient, compact and secure than the previous Ez Go ETC system. Users no longer need to install an Onboard Unit (OBU) and visit a counter to manually top up their cards, as TPU can be topped up through online money-transfer systems. Users can also check their vehicle's TPU balance, travel history and TPU deductions for road usage at any time through the mobile application. The Toll Pass system has been installed within a short period to enable travelers to conveniently pass through all six major toll gates along the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway. The Expressway Maintenance, Repair and Supervision Team said users may experience some inconvenience during the initial installation period due to software or barrier errors and requested their understanding. Users are also encouraged to report any difficulties through the hotlines.
