The fire at Bar 4 U restaurant, which killed two employees, was caused by a loose socket of a ceiling-mounted Per Light bulb, resulting in a fire, according to the Myanmar Fire Services Department headquarters. The restaurant owner has been charged and legal action has been taken against him.
The two Bar 4 U employees, Salai, 27, and Aung Min Thu, 23, died from smoke inhalation as a result of the fire.
At 8:17 p.m. on September 13, a fire was reported at Bar 4 U restaurant, located at No. S/16, Sanchaung Road, Shin Saw Pu Ward, Sanchaung Township, Yangon Region.
A total of 10 fire engines, seven water tankers, one command vehicle, 80 regular firefighters and 25 auxiliary firefighters were deployed to extinguish the blaze. The incident was classified as Level 1, the standard level for fires requiring fire engines to be dispatched.
The fire was brought under control at 8:41 p.m. and completely extinguished at 8:45 p.m.
According to the Fire Services Department, the fire started when the socket of a Per Light bulb installed in the ceiling of Bar 4 U became loose and produced sparks. The sparks ignited soundproof foam panels located near the light, causing the fire to spread.
The fire damaged four shop units in total, including Bar 4 U, as well as their contents. The affected businesses included Phone Bank, a mobile phone shop; Organic Spicy Mala Xiang Guo restaurant; and Win Star restaurant.
In connection with the fire, Bar 4 U owner U Sai Naw, 36, son of U Htwe Aung, has been charged by the Sanchaung Myoma Police Station under Case No. 373/2026 and Sections 285 and 304-A of the Penal Code.
