Floodwaters in Laymyethna have fallen significantly along the town centre road, although residential areas remain inundated, according to local relief workers.

A representative of the Hinthada District Network Social Assistance Association said the water level had begun to recede and vehicles could now enter the town. However, drinking water sources remained submerged, prompting plans to provide clean drinking water in cooperation with groups operating mobile water purification units.

The association is also providing food and other assistance to flood-affected townships. Relief efforts have been hampered by a shortage of high-clearance vehicles, particularly on flooded and damaged roads. The group is seeking donations to purchase a suitable vehicle to improve the delivery of aid.

For the recovery phase, the association plans to focus on drinking water and healthcare support. It also urged donors to coordinate with local relief organisations and provide assistance based on systematically assessed needs to ensure aid is delivered effectively.

Government departments are also coordinating efforts to repair the breach in the Laymyethna embankment as quickly as possible.
