The National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and leaders of the seven-member alliance of Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) signatory Ethnic Armed Organizations (7 EAO Alliance) are holding informal discussions in Naypyidaw today (June 9), according to reports.

The informal meeting is being held at the invitation of the NSPNC.

The discussions are attended by NSPNC Chairman Lieutenant General Yar Pyae and members of the committee, along with an eight-member delegation led by Colonel Sai Ngin, representing the seven NCA-signatory ethnic armed organizations of the 7 EAO Alliance.

Following the formation of the new government, the Central Committee for National Solidarity and Peacemaking officially invited relevant organizations on April 21 to engage in peace talks. The initiative aims to resolve political issues through political means and to facilitate the implementation of the peace process through free and unconditional dialogue.

After issuing the invitation, the NSPNC reportedly sent additional written invitations to the 7 EAO Alliance, both individually and collectively, to participate in peace discussions.

According to reports, the member organizations of the 7 EAO Alliance discussed the government's invitation separately within their respective organizations and also held extensive deliberations among the alliance’s leadership. As a result, they reached a consensus to engage in discussions with the government on the peace process.

In his opening remarks at the informal meeting, Colonel Sai Ngin, leader of the 7 EAO Alliance delegation, stated that the alliance is committed to advancing the peace process with the objectives of revitalizing peace efforts in line with current circumstances, ensuring the participation of organizations that should be involved in the process, and building lasting and sustainable peace.

The statement was included in a release issued by the 7 EAO Alliance regarding the informal discussions.
