PTT Fuel Stations in Myawaddy Begin Selling at Government Reference Prices

In Myawaddy, Kayin State, three PTT fuel stations allocated with government quotas have begun systematically selling fuel at official reference prices starting from 6:00 a.m. on May 6, 2026, according to reports.

At these stations, fuel is being sold in line with the government-designated prices. The approximate rates per liter are: MMK 4,755 for Octane 92, MMK 4,910 for Octane 95, and MMK 6,695 for premium diesel.

Customers arriving to purchase fuel for their cars, motorcycles, and three-wheel vehicles are required to present a Registration Certificate of a Motor Vehicle (RCMV), commonly referred to as a “wheel tax” document.

Fuel purchase limits have also been set: motorcycles are allowed up to 8 liters per week, while cars may purchase approximately 35 to 40 liters per week depending on engine power. Long-distance vehicles are also being accommodated based on engine capacity, with arrangements in place to ensure smooth and convenient access to fuel at the set prices. Relevant authorities are reportedly conducting inspections at the stations.

A local resident in Myawaddy commented, “We appreciate that fuel is being sold at government-set prices. However, private cars and commercial vehicles should be categorized separately in the sales system.”

Last month, Myawaddy experienced fuel shortages severe enough to force temporary closures of fuel stations. Currently, most stations are selling fuel at market prices of around MMK 12,000 per liter. With the introduction of government quota fuel sales limited to licensed vehicles at fixed prices as of May 6, local residents are hopeful that fuel prices in the broader market will begin to decline.
