During the temporary control of the insurgents, the Ruby Land Golf Course in Mogok was damaged due to mining, according to sources.
The Ruby Land Golf Course had been preserved without mining for generations, but after the insurgents took control, mining was carried out using machinery, causing extensive damage.
Due to mining using machinery, the Ruby Land Golf Club in Mogok, also known as the Ruby Land in Mandalay Region, was damaged to the point where it was no longer recognizable as a golf course.
"After they (the insurgents) took control of the town, they used large machinery to mine the golf course. At that time, security was put up around the golf course and entry and exit was blocked. They did not allow anyone to approach the golf course. When they were about to withdraw, they allowed the locals to search for the gemstones. Since then, we have seen the golf course being destroyed to the point of being worthless," said a resident of Mogok.
Entrepreneurs have applied to successive governments to obtain permission to mine gemstones on the land of the Ruby Golf Course in Mogok, but due to objections from the town council and local residents, they have not been granted permission.
"The golf course land, which was never mined, was completely mined after they (the insurgents) took it over. Previously, no company would mine the golf course because the residents objected. After they (the insurgents) took over the town, they started digging as they wanted," said a resident of Mogok.
In addition, after the insurgents took control of Mogok town, they entered and occupied the Mogok General Hospital, and when they withdrew, they took and destroyed the hospital's medical equipment.
The Ta'ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA) attacked police stations and security posts in Mogok town, and announced that it had taken control of the western part of Mogok town (Kyet Pyin) on July 30, 2024, and that it had taken control of the eastern part of Mogok on July 24.
Then, with the mediation of China's Special Representative for Asian Affairs, Mr. Deng Xijun, the Tatmadaw and PSLF/TNLA met in Kunming, China for two days from October 27 to 28, 2025, and agreed to a ceasefire and to withdraw from Mogok town and Momeik township.
After the agreement between the Tatmadaw and the PSLF/TNLA, the MDY-PDF issued statements that they would protect the areas they controlled, but in November, Tatmadaw re-entered Mogok town.
In addition, the Tatmadaw fully controlled the Thabeikkyin-Mogok communication route and reopened the Mandalay-Thabeikkyin-Mogok communication route on January 20, allowing displaced people and departmental staff to return to Mogok.
Since the Tatmadaw fully regained control of the Thabeikkyin-Mogok communication route, which was temporarily controlled by the PDF coalition, on January 19, local residents and travellers have been able to travel on the Mandalay-Thabeikkyin-Mogok communication route since January 20, and local trade and commerce have been able to resume as normal.
The military will carry out necessary territorial control work in these areas and will cooperate with relevant officials to repair the roads and bridges, departmental buildings, homes of local people, and schools destroyed by terrorists. They will continue to carry out territorial security and territorial control work to facilitate the smooth flow of goods and trade in the region and ensure the safe travel.
