According to the Ministry of Information, PDF members shelled and torched departmental buildings, staff housing, and privately owned homes belonging to local residents on the western side of Yephyu Town in Taninthayi Region on December 12, using heavy and small arms.

The incident occurred at around 9:50 a.m. on December 12, when KNU and PDF groups—whose leadership and strength were still being assessed—launched an attack on the Yephyu Town police station from the northern side of the town using heavy and small arms. At the same time, two coordinated groups harassed and fired at security personnel positioned on the southern side of the town and near the bridge to prevent reinforcements from arriving. As the attackers attempted to seize the police station, police personnel at the station returned fire, while security forces stationed in the southeastern part of Yephyu Town provided supporting fire with heavy weapons. As a result, the terrorist insurgent groups retreated and fled toward the north of the town at around 12:30 p.m.

While retreating, the attackers set fire to departmental buildings along their escape route to prevent security forces from pursuing and engaging them. The buildings torched included the General Administration Office, the Forest Department Office, a multi-department office, the public hospital, a bank, and staff housing. It was reported that no security personnel were injured in the incident, while assessments were still underway to determine whether civil servants and innocent civilians sustained injuries.

Due to the arson attacks carried out by the PDFs, departmental office buildings, office furniture, and important documents were destroyed by fire. Security personnel and local residents are jointly carrying out necessary firefighting operations. Meanwhile, security forces are continuing pursuit operations against the fleeing PDF members and are maintaining required area security measures, the Ministry of Information reported.
