Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC), Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, met with Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw, according to official sources.

The meeting took place on December 7 at the Bayintnaung Guesthouse in Nay Pyi Taw, where Senior General Min Aung Hlaing held talks with the Thai delegation led by H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

During the discussions, both sides acknowledged the long-standing historical ties between Myanmar and Thailand, emphasizing their enduring relationship as close neighbors and good friends. They discussed the continued implementation of bilateral agreements, efforts to further strengthen cooperation, and the need to maintain stability and peace in border areas—an essential factor for restoring smooth cross-border trade.

They also discussed the importance of joint government–military cooperation to maintain border security, prevent illegal cross-border trade, and address ongoing issues related to online scam operations in border areas. Myanmar briefed the Thai side on its demolition of illegal buildings in KK Park and Shwe Kokko, where cross-border online fraud activities had been taking place.

Both sides further discussed possible collaboration at the national level to curb illegal arms trafficking along the border.

Additionally, Myanmar explained its ongoing cooperation within ASEAN, preparations for holding a free and fair multiparty democratic general election later this month, and Thailand’s own plans to conduct its elections in January 2026. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening friendship and bilateral cooperation.

Attending the meeting alongside Senior General Min Aung Hlaing were Secretary and Deputy Executive Chief of the Commission, Vice-Senior General Ye Win Oo; commission members including Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung; and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe. The Thai delegation included Thailand’s Ambassador to Myanmar, H.E. Mr. Mongkol Visitstump, and other officials accompanying the Foreign Minister.
