Myanmar, Russia discuss investment in oil and gas exploration, production, and energy trading via Myanmar's deep seaports

Myanmar and Russia discussed investment in oil and gas exploration, production and energy trading via Myanmar’s deep seaports, according to sources.

A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin attended the 8th Russia Energy Week International Forum (REW) held in Moscow from October 15 to 17 at the invitation of Mr. Anton Kobyakov, Executive Secretary of the Forum Organizing Committee and Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation.

During their visit, the Myanmar delegation met separately with Mr. Sergey Tumanov, General Director of Gazprom International Limited, and Mr. Sergey Kudryashov, General Director of Zarubezhneft JSC, to discuss investment in oil and gas exploration, production, and opportunities for energy trading using Myanmar’s deep seaports. They also discussed the prospects of building an oil refinery in Myanmar and distributing petroleum products not only domestically but also in regional countries.

The Myanmar delegation then met with the delegation led by Mr. Shatirov Sergey Vladimirovich, Honorary Consul of Myanmar to the Russian Federation and Director of the Roscongress Investment Fund, and discussed the progress and future issues of cooperation between Myanmar and the Roscongress Investment Fund, as well as issues related to further cooperation in the energy sector of the two countries and accelerating the development of the interests of both countries.

The Myanmar delegation then attended plenary session of the main forum, the main event of the 8th Russian Energy Week International Forum.

At the meeting, the President of the Russian Federation, Mr. Vladimir Putin, emphasized the importance of the energy sector in the socio-economic development of humanity, Russia’s role in global energy supply, the key role of electricity generation in the development of the digital industry, and planning and implementing long-term visions for energy security and energy self-sufficiency, and the participants discussed the relevant sectors.

After that, the Union Minister and his team visited the exhibitions of various organizations involved in the energy sector during their participation in the forum, and at the Joint Stock Company Inter RAO exhibition, they discussed the capabilities of combined-cycle gas turbines that can generate electricity with minimal loss of natural gas.

The Russian Energy Week International Forum was start held in 2017 and discussed the implementation of programs related to solving problems in the energy sector, increasing energy supply for humanity, and developing international cooperation programs related to climate, science and technology development.
