A Myanmar woman who was awaiting deportation in Phuket, Thailand, has hanged herself, reported The Thaiger, a Thai news outlet.
The 29-year-old Myanmar woman allegedly committed suicide on the morning of August 22 while being held in a detention center at the Phuket Immigration Office.
The woman, identified only as Ma Htike Dali, hanged herself in her cell at around 5:30 am, using her jeans, the report said, citing CCTV footage.
She was transferred to the Phuket detention center earlier this month. She was released from Phuket Provincial Prison on August 15 and transferred to the detention center on August 21. The report said she committed suicide while being held in a detention center awaiting deportation to Myanmar.
The report added that two other women were in the cell at the time of her death, and it is not known whether her cellmates were aware of her death.
Thai police have ruled the death as a suicide case and the body has been taken to a hospital, Thaiger reported.
