Ministry of Commerce reported that the Myawaddy border trade zone recorded nearly USD 4.472 million in trade between July 19 and 25, 2025 — with exports worth USD 2.913 million and imports worth USD 1.559 million. Compared to the previous week, total trade dropped by USD 0.496 million due to declines in both export and import values.

The fall in exports was mainly due to reduced shipments of agricultural products, fishery goods, and industrial raw materials. While investment-related imports increased by USD 0.547 million, imports of industrial raw materials and consumer goods fell, leading to an overall import decline of USD 0.215 million.

Historically, Myanmar–Thailand trade through Myawaddy has fluctuated. In fiscal year 2019–2020, bilateral trade totaled USD 5.117 billion, with Myanmar exporting USD 3.095 billion and importing USD 2.021 billion. In earlier fiscal years, trade volumes ranged from about USD 4.2 billion to USD 5.4 billion.

Myanmar’s main exports include agricultural produce, livestock, fishery products, minerals, forest products, and industrial goods. Key imports include investment equipment, industrial raw materials, consumer goods, and CMP raw materials.

To boost exports, Myanmar is implementing its National Export Strategy (2020–2025), prioritizing sectors such as agricultural and basic food production, textiles and garments, industrial and electrical goods, fisheries, forest products, digital products, logistics, quality management, trade information services, and innovation.
