On April 6, during the official ceasefire period declared by the military, ethnic armed groups such as the KIA, TNLA, KNDF, KNPP, and AA attacked military bases, according to Major General Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson of the State Administration Council.

“Despite the military's announcement on April 2 of a ceasefire from April 2 to 22, the KIA launched an artillery attack using 82mm mortars at around 10:30 p.m. on April 6 targeting the military headquarters in Bhamo. Similarly, the TNLA engaged in clashes in the southern Shan region around 12:30 p.m. The KNDF and KNPP reportedly attacked a security unit near the forestry office in Bawlake at about 8:30 a.m. that same day. The AA also fired at a naval vessel in Gwa and shelled military outposts in Kyaukphyu,” said the spokesperson on April 7.

The military declared the ceasefire to express sympathy for citizens affected by recent earthquakes and to focus on relief and rehabilitation efforts. The military claimed it did not initiate any attacks and only responded when its bases or towns were attacked.

At a donation event held in Nay Pyi Taw on April 1 for earthquake relief efforts, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council, reiterated that the military has not targeted or pursued any armed group unless provoked.

“We do not go out attacking rebels or armed groups without cause. But if our bases or towns are attacked, or if preparations to attack us are discovered, we will take necessary actions. Otherwise, we see no reason to respond,” he said.

He added that the government is always open to dialogue with all ethnic armed groups to achieve practical and effective peace. He emphasized the importance of inclusive and sincere discussions so that all ethnic people can enjoy peace and development. He urged armed groups to genuinely follow the path of peace.
