Department of Urban and Housing Development has issued a warning about fraudulent letters falsely granting permission to rent or purchase affordable housing units. 

The department cautioned the public to be vigilant against scams involving counterfeit approval letters used to deceive buyers and renters.

According to the department, some individuals have forged official notification letters purportedly authorizing the sale of housing units. As a result, the public is urged to exercise caution to avoid falling victim to fraudulent transactions.

Recently, the Ministry of Construction and the Department of Urban and Housing Development implemented a housing project in Yoma Yeiktha, offering 874 low-cost apartments.

Under the supervision of the Yangon Region Government, these units were designated for low-income individuals, retired government employees, and junior civil servants. The sale of these apartments was officially announced in state-owned newspapers, and over 30,000 applications were submitted. By the deadline, more than 28,000 applicants had re-submitted their forms.

The Housing Sales Committee is currently reviewing applications to determine eligibility. Qualified applicants will be selected through a lottery system, and official notification letters will be sent to the winners, the department confirmed.
