Authorities in Myanmar have successfully arrested 187 foreign nationals involved in illegal online gambling and online fraud activities in Myawaddy, Shwe Koko, Mehtawthalay and KK Park.
The operation was carried out under a trilateral cooperation framework between Myanmar, China, and Thailand to combat online scams and gambling. The authorities have been investigating and dismantling networks linked to foreign nationals who were involved in these illegal activities.
On February 27, following coordinated efforts with neighboring countries, these foreign nationals, who had illegally entered Myanmar through border routes, were apprehended in the areas of Shwekokko, Mehtawthalay, and KK Park in Myawaddy, Kayin State. They were found to be operating online gambling and fraud activities.
The collection of personal information and records required for the immediate repatriation of the detained foreign nationals to their respective countries is being carried out by joint departments on the same day. The Minister of Security and Border Affairs of the Karen State Government, Colonel Min Thu Kyaw, inspected the process and met with officials to discuss the health, living and food, security and deportation issues of the foreign nationals without delay and to coordinate the necessary measures.
From January 30 to February 27, a total of (2925) foreign nationals who entered Myanmar illegally were identified and detained, of whom (757) were systematically transferred to their respective countries through Thailand in accordance with legal procedures. The remaining (2168) foreign nationals are ready to be transferred to their respective countries and are being well-maintained.
