Two students were injured by a landmine explosion while transporting desks for an upcoming exam in Tonbyawgyi Village, Myeik, Tanintharyi Region, on February 11, 2025.
At around 12:00 pm, a group consisting of a primary school teacher and six students from Tonbyawgyi Basic Education High School were traveling by motor vehicle to deliver necessary exam desks to the Taung Phila Basic Education High School. While en route, near the border of Tonbyawgyi and Taungpu villages, the vehicle was struck by a landmine explosion, injuring two students who were aboard the vehicle according to the statement issued by the State Administration Council.
The injured students, identified as Maung Htet Ye Ko nd Maung Htet Ye Lin, sustained mine-related injuries and were immediately transported to the Myeik Township military hospital for treatment.
Local security forces responded to the incident, securing the area and conducting further investigations. Authorities are working with the local community to identify and apprehend those responsible for planting the landmine, while continuing to enhance security measures in the region.
