The 2025 Naga Traditional New Year Festival was celebrated in Lahe, a town in the Naga Self-Administered Zone, Sagaing Region, from January 12 to 15.
The annual festival alternates between towns in the Naga Self-Administered Zone, including Nanyun, Lahe, and Leshi.
"A variety of activities were held, but the number of visitors was lower than before. People from the Indian side of the Naga community joined, but high transportation and market costs in the region likely limited attendance from outside guests," said a resident of Nanyun.
The festival featured a wide range of activities, including sports competitions. Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, U Min Thein Zan, attended with officials to observe and present awards to winners.
This year celebrations included such as a formal opening ceremony, performances by cultural troupes, including welcome dances and traditional drumming, traditional singing and dancing events, departmental exhibitions showcasing local heritage, commemorative sports competitions, traditional food offerings and displays of Naga culinary practices as well as cultural bonfire ceremonies.
The festival highlighted the rich traditions and heritage of the Naga people while fostering unity and cultural exchange.
