Authorities have confiscated 332.2 kilograms of heroin, valued at over 14.5 billion kyats, and 4.1 million methamphetamine tablets in Kyaukse Township, Mandalay Region.
The significant drug bust was conducted by a joint task force from the Anti-Narcotics Police Force.
On November 17, at approximately 3:00 PM, acting on intelligence, officers intercepted two suspects—Sai Wunna Tun (alias Wunna) and Soe Myint Tun—north of Taung Taw Village near a canal. The suspects were traveling in two vehicles and a motorcycle.
Investigations revealed that147.4 kilograms of heroin, packed in 220 soap boxes within 67 bags and 4.148 million methamphetamine tablets, packed in 20 bags.
The operation extended to various regions, leading to additional arrests:Nyan Win Hlaing, acting as a scout, was apprehended at Singu Township’s toll gate in a Surf vehicle.
Zaw Tun, the primary transporter, was arrested with a motorcycle in Kyaukse Township. Kyaw Swar Lin (alias Gas Stove), the driver of the Canter truck, was caught in Kyaukse’s Sar Taung Nge Village.
Aung Khant, the intended receiver, was arrested in Chan Aye Tharzan Township in Mandalay City. Thet Wai Aung, suspected of coordinating the transport, was detained in Aungban on November 19.Oakkar Naing, who transported drugs using a Dongfeng truck, was caught on Myo Shaung Road in Kyaukse Township.
Based on Zaw Tun's statements, authorities discovered a hidden stash in a forest near Khin Village, Kyaukse Township. The cache included an additional 184.8 kilograms of heroin, packed in 84 bags.
The total seized drugs amounted to:332.2 kilograms of heroin, valued at over 14.5 billion kyats and 4.148 million methamphetamine tablets.
Authorities also seized luxury vehicles, including an Alphard and a Mark II, believed to have been purchased with profits from the drug trade. These vehicles were owned by Aung Khant and were confiscated in Chan Aye Tharzan Township.
All suspects have been charged and are under investigation. Authorities are continuing to dismantle the drug trafficking network by identifying additional accomplices and confiscating assets tied to illegal activities. These efforts are being carried out under anti-money laundering laws to ensure that illicit profits are returned to public funds.
