According to Thai PBS, a boat traveling from Laos to Tachilek sank in the Mekong River, leaving 20 Myanmar nationals missing.

The boat, which was carrying over 40 passengers, sank on the afternoon of September 2.

While 20 passengers were rescued by other vessels, the remaining passengers could not be saved, and the search continued into the night, the report stated.

The report, citing eyewitnesses, mentioned that the boat was carrying Myanmar nationals from Laos, passing through Chiang Rai Province in Thailand, on its way to Tachilek.

The cause of the sinking was reported to be due to the boat suddenly stopping and sinking while navigating the river during a period of rising water levels and strong currents.
