The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) announced on July 25 that the water level of the Thanlwin River in Hpa-an and the Shwegyin River in Shwegyin have exceeded the critical water level, respectively.

According to the statement, the water level of the Thanlwin River has reached the critical water mark of 24.61 feet in Hpa-an by more than a foot, and the water level of the river may rise by about one and a half feet in the next day and may continue to be above the critical water mark of the city.

The Shwegyin River water level has reached 22.97 feet above the critical water level in Shwegyin by more than four and a half feet, and the river water may drop by one foot in the next day and may continue to remain above the critical water level in the city.

Bilin River water level has reached 33.53 feet above the critical water mark in Bilin by about an inch, and it may rise by two and a half feet in the next day, and may continue to be above the critical water level in the city. For this reason, DMH has informed the people living near the river bank and in the low land in Bilin and Shwegyin townships to be especially careful.

As for the third ten-day water level forecast, the water levels may rise above the present water level by about 1-5 feet at Myitkyina, Bhamo, Shwegu and Katha and the water levels may fall below the present water level by about 3-6 feet at Thabeikkyin, Mandalay, Sagaing, Myinmu, Pakokku, NyaungU, Chauk, Minbu, Magway, Aunglan, Pyay, Seiktha, Hintada and Zalun of Ayeyawady River.

The water levels may fall below the present water level by about 6-8 feet at HKamti, Homalin and Phaungpyin, and about 10-12 feet at Mawlaik, Kalewa, Minkin, Kani and Monywa of Chindwin River.

The water levels may rise above the present water level by about 1.5-2.5 feet at Hsipaw and Shwesaryan of Dokhtawady River, about 3-4 feet at Taungoo and Madauk of Sittaung River, about 3 feet at Shwegyin of Shwegyin River, abot2-3 feet at Zaungtu and Bago of Bago River, about 2 feet at Hpa-an of Thanlwin River, about 3 feet at Myawady of Thaungyin River, about 0.5 foot at Pathein of Ngawun River, about 4 feet at Bilin of Bilin River, and the water levels may fall below the present water level by about 2.5 feet at Kalay of Myittha River, about 4 feet at Myitnge of Dokhtawady River, about 2-4 feet at Ngathaing Chaung and Thabaung of Ngawun River and about 0.5 foot at Maubin of Toe River.
