It has been reported by some overseas employment agencies that deceptive practices are ongoing, claiming that workers will be sent to Korea as seasonal workers. Despite continued efforts by both governments to arrange transportation, these claims are not credible.

U Myat Thu, Secretary of the Myanmar Overseas Employment Agencies Federation, stated that there are ongoing deceptions regarding sending workers to Korea as seasonal workers. "Efforts are still being made to secure permission for transportation. No one has been able to go yet. It is not credible at this time to claim that people can go as seasonal workers," said U Myat Thu.

He further emphasized the prevalence of financial frauds claiming that people can go and work as seasonal workers. "These issues are quite prevalent now. Even we, the legitimate agencies, are still striving to send seasonal workers. No one has yet been able to send any seasonal workers. We are also hearing many reports of people being scammed out of money," said U Myat Thu.

In mid-May, state-owned newspapers reported that Daw Chaw Su Hlaing had collected money from trainees, claiming she could send them to Korea as seasonal workers within seven days. According to an announcement by Myint Mo Academy Group, Daw Chaw Su Hlaing collected money from 126 trainees, charging 3.2 million kyats per person or 2.75 million kyats per person under contracts. However, she failed to send the 126 trainees abroad as per the contracts. The announcement stated that if she did not refund the money within seven days from the date of the announcement, legal action would be taken.

For 2024, the countries from which South Korea will be recruiting seasonal workers include Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. Myanmar is not included in this list.

Currently, workers are only being sent through the EPS system, under an agreement between the governments of Korea and Myanmar. To work through the EPS system, workers must pass a Korean language proficiency test.
