On November 18, officials from Muse town in northern Shan State handed over 97 Chinese nationals who were arrested in connection with gambling operations in the town, Muse district, to Chinese authorities at the Manwun gate, which is the entry and exit point between China and Myanmar.

''I heard that last night. This afternoon, they arrived in cars and dropped them off at Manwun gate. Each of the 97 was taken by two cops and they were taken in police cars,” said a nearby resident.

At present, continued efforts are being made to prevent illegal cross-border crimes from occurring in Muse. Thanks to bilateral, cooperative efforts to combat transnational crime, the number of gambling sites in the town has decreased. There were around 80 gambling places.

“There are more than eighty large and small gambling theaters in Muse. The number has increased since the gambling law came into effect. Some do it openly, and some do it secretly. Those who engage in gambling operations have connections with both armed groups and town authorities. But now, what about gambling sites? The number has decreased as officials from both countries are suppressing cross-border crimes due to current circumstances and Covid-19. Muse has weapons and gambling. The town is full of those who come to do drug and illegal business, and Chinese nationals,'' said a resident of Muse.

Moreover, continued measures are being taken to prevent further transnational crime cases in Manwun and Pankham villages and Muse downtown areas.

"Last night (November 17) and today (November 18), both sides are taking care of the town’s security. Meanwhile, they are hunting and investigating to reduce cross-border crimes," said a local resident of Muse.

Regarding the matter, Eleven Media contacted the officials in Muse District, but could not get in touch due to phone line problems.

The information team of the State Administration Council reported on November 17 that 286 people—270 Chinese nationals, two Malaysian citizens, one Vietnamese citizen and 13 Myanmar citizens involved in online financial fraud and gambling in eastern and southern Shan State were arrested.
