Due to continuous heavy rain, Thaungyin River water level increased and some houses in low lying areas flooded according to sources.
Houses in Khunsar compound in No- 1 and 2 ward, Thaeponseik ward, Thjayatpin gate in No-5 ward and Kyaukphyar gate in No-4 ward were flooded and people had to move to safer places. Since the evening of August 3, Thaungyin River water level has increased and reached over danger water level of 1046 cm. Firefighters and social organization members helped flood victims to reach safe places.
“Low lying areas of Myawaddy are usually flooded. If the rain poured down for 4 or 5 days, flooding usually occur. Flooding disaster caused hardship in livelihood of families,” said a man from Thjayatpin gate in No-5 ward.
Thaungyin River water level was higher in the morning of August 4 and currently, hundreds of houses were flooded, the man continued. At the same time, Myaynigone road in Asia highway were also flooded and transportation was difficult, sources said.
