Southwest monsoon wind likely to enter Myanmar starting from May 13: DMH

Southwest monsoon wind is likely to enter southern parts of Myanmar between May 13 and 18, delta areas between May 19 and 24, the central parts of Myanmar between May 25 and 31 and the northern parts of Myanmar between June 1 and 6 respectively, announced the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

According to the announcement, the rainy season for 2023 is from the day the Southwest Monsoon enters Myanmar until the end of June. The southwest monsoon may enter southern parts of Myanmar between May 13 and 18, delta areas between May 19 and 24, the central parts of Myanmar between May 25 and 31 and the northern parts of Myanmar between June 1 and 6 respectively.

During the monsoon period, low pressure area may occur four times in the Bay of Bengal, and two of them may intensify into depression. During this period, the southwest monsoon may be light to moderate.

Rain or thundershower will be expected below normal in Sagaing Region and Kachin, Northern Shan, Chin states and about normal in Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady, Taninthayi regions and (Southern and Eastern) Shan, Rakhine, Kayah, Kayin, Mon states.

As for the mid-rainy season forecast, the mid-rainy season is from July 1 to the end of August. During the mid-monsoon period, low pressure may occur four times in the Bay of Bengal, and two of them may intensify into depression. During this period, the southwest monsoon will be strong. Rain or thundershower will be expected above normal in Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady regions, Kayin and Mon states and about normal in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Tanintharyi regions, Kachin, Shan, Chin, Rakhine and Kayah states.

As for late monsoon season forecast, the late monsoon season is from September 1 until the day the southwest monsoon wind retreated from the whole of Myanmar. During the late monsoon period, low pressure may occur three times in the Bay of Bengal, and one of them may intensify into depression. During this period, the Southwest Monsoon will be light to moderate. Rain or thundershower will be about normal in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady, Tanintharyi regions, Kachin, Shan, Chin, Rakhine, Kayah, Kayin and Mon states.
