Myawady-Mae Sot Friendship Bridge No.1, which have been closed on the Thai-Myanmar border for about three years, will be reopened on a ceremonial scale by officials from both countries at 9.30am on January 12, Thai media reported.
The bridge crucial for freight transport and travel between Myanmar and Thailand was closed on February 21, 2020 due to the Covid-19 global pandemic.
“It’s very good news that the bridge will reopen. Workers have difficulties due to its closure. Those wishing to return home are in trouble. With the bridge reopening, trade and health issues will get convenient,” said a man working on workers’ affairs.
Friendship Bridge No.2 engages in trade activities and commodity flow but travelling is not allowed.
MoU workers are being sent to Thailand via that Bridge No.2 but those returnees to Myanmar are not allowed.
