The CBM is being prioritized for greater access to digital payments, reduction of cash consumption and financial stability, said Daw Than Than Swe, Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM).
Daw Than Than Swe said the above at the consultation meeting held on January 3 on the widespread use of digital payment methods by the public and strengthening the use of digital payments in the Union Territory of Nay Pyi Taw.
As it is needed to establish a nationwide plan to use digital payments for all payments, including government tax collection, water and meter bill payments, the governor discussed about the use of the cards, which are currently being implemented for more use of digital payment methods, mobile apps and QR codes in Nay Pyi Taw.
The participants of the meeting discussed about the current activities in Nay Pyi Taw and other big cities, to carry out awareness programs at the Junction Center and other areas so that digital pay apps can be used more in Nay Pyi Taw, to carry out promotional programs and campaigns at market events and to set action cities to be established and submitted by banks and mobile financial services companies and service companies including ministries that collect and clear on behalf of sellers to implement it as a digital city.
Officials from the CBM, KBZ Bank, Ayeyawady Bank, Asian Green Development Bank, UAB Bank, Myanmar Citizens Bank, Shwe (Rural and Urban) Development Bank, the Ayeyawady Farmers' Development Bank and mobile financial service companies attended the meeting.
