A whale shark with about 18 feet in length died after being stranded on the beach of Thegon village, Ye Township, Mon State, at about 11pm on October 4, local sources said.
“That whale shark was found when fishermen drawing their nets. It then died soon after being stranded on the beach. It was about 18 feet long. The Township Fisheries Department was informed about this,” said a local villager.
Officials arrived at the scene and checked the dead whale shark. It was pushed down to the sea when tides came in, the villager added.
On April 18, 2019 also, a 17-foot porpoise was stranded to death at the beach of Zeephyu village, Ye Township. At that time, it was buried by the locals.
