Paletwa Township is facing food shortages and rising commodity prices due to the cut off of transportation routes after the armed conflict escalated, announced the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) on September 6.
The statement said that after repeated efforts since early August, the WFP was able to deliver emergency food aid to Paletwa Township despite the deteriorating security situation.
People living in Paletwa Township are facing food shortages and rising commodity prices due to the cut off of transportation routes since the armed conflict escalated, WFP said.
The WFP was able to deliver 150 metric tons of food to Paletwa Township and plans to deliver more in the coming days.
It is stated that discussions and adjustments are being made in order to start distributing the relief and nutritional supplies to the 9,000 displaced people and people affected by the conflict in Palatwa Township.
The WFP is also providing life-saving assistance to displaced people and other affected people in other parts of Myanmar as it becomes available, it said.
The WFP is calling for more assistance to those in need in Myanmar, especially conflict-affected areas and displaced people.
